Number plates

Is there any reason why RRS number plates are screwed on rather than using self adhesive pads? Got new number plates coming hopefully next week and thinking about using the pads rather than screwing them on, anyone else done this?

I know this is a relatively minor question but I don’t want to stick them on if it’s not recommended

With the front I heat the plate as I fit it so it bends to the shape of the bumper. Andy.

Thumbs Up that’s probably the reason the front plate isscrewed if it curves slightly. 2015 RRS Autobiography Dynamic Corris Grey Black Roof

My front is screwed on, but I used pads (lots and lots) on the ack, mainly because the existing hole would have meant that the screw was through the Union Flag. 2010 HSE TdV8 in Stornoway Grey.

Have used double sided foam tape/number plate tape for many years and it's more of a concern on whether the plate will come off without breaking rather than falling off. Sensible bends isn't a concern either.

Personally I cann't think of a reason why anyone would actually choose to drill their plate or car when this tape is available. 13MY Range Rover Sport Autobiography SDV6 - mine

Tape

I always use the double sided tape that's used to stick sealed unit windows in I've never had any plates fall off using this

On My L494 i used pads with no issues front and back, did use a stubbier 5 digit plate though which may have helped reduce any bend.

The cheap stuff falls off as soon as you look at it (Halfords, I'm looking at you .. but maybe mine had just been sat in a drawer too long) - the stuff I've had come with plates has always worked fine, though.

On your second point - imagine my disappointment when I took the plate off the back of my BMW to find that:
a) The previous owner/dealer had used a screwdriver to pry the plate off, leaving lots of lovely gouges in the plastic bumper (which the new plate only covers if you put it not quite in the right place, grr)
b) There were also screw holes

This topic reminds me of when I was 17 and with no real world clue!, I had fitted a private plate to my audi a3 with some available mastick that was kicking about at work and when I sold the car and went to pull off the plate the paint came with it!
a can of aerosol and slightly oversized plate - ahem....on the morning the guy was collecting the car.

Sticky pads from then on...

Must admit, I did see someone recently (here or on Facebook, I don't recall) say they had put new lenses on their headlights (splitting the old ones with a heat gun) with Tigerseal. That's the last time they'll ever come apart, I thought! 2014 BMW 530d Touring, 2006 BMW 650i, 2018 Mini Cooper S
