We board guide dogs - they supply us with a simple cable similar to the link that attaches to the dog's harness (top of their shoulders):

I suppose that depending on the size of the dog, the dog guard that fits securely above the rear seats will be the best bet. If you have a small dog, there are crates that will fit in the boot so you don't get the pea in a drum effect.

What's wrong with a dog guard? Dog in boot, can't get in to the cabin area either on purpose or during a crash. No risk of the dog strangling itself if it gets wrapped up in the lead/cable thingy.

Sorry, my post was aimed at and answering the OP. Should have quoted him really to avoid confusion. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I've gone for the belt and braces approach. There is a Pet-World/ Arrows-UK L320 specific dog crate (£99 delivered as ex-demo) for day to day travel and then a genuine LR dog guard (£45 off e-Bay) permanently fitted for any transport needs when the crate isn't ready and waiting in the car.

Hi, I have just put in an order for a new RRS, looking to order a dog guard for it. Does the Travall one rattle at all? I dont want to spend a lot on a dog guard and find the metal rattles around... it would drive me nuts. |

I use a Tektake crate, with straps to the tie down points to keep it in place. 2010 HSE TdV8 in Stornoway Grey.
