2010 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Santorini Black
Supercharger

Hi
Could anyone tell me if the supercharger should be noisy at the rear, sounds like ball bearings in a tin can, it has had a new snort fitted by landrover 500 miles ago & now seems to be a bit noisy. Big Cry It's a 2010 5ltr v8.
Thanks for any help

Certainly no rattle or noise coming from mine, I think one of the first things to do is check that there is actualy oil in it, not sure if it is actualy necessary to drain the oil when changing the snout but would have though it would be good practice to change it anyway if the supercharger has had repairs done to it, would not be the first time something has been drained and not refilled. Has it just developed or was It like it when the car was returned to you? also not sure if s/c needs to be removed to change the snout, do recall reading somewhere it is possible to change it without removing it on the sport but if it's in the 5.0L jag it has to be removed. If it has been removed make sure they have refitted the insulators shield to the inlet manifolds as I believe these help prevent noise, vibration and harshness etc. Will admit though however not sure how they actualy attach.

Cheers
Col

Thanks for the reply, yes I was told by landrover that the whole supercharger was removed as could not get the get the end off. I did notice is was a little nosiy when I check my water on my washers a day or so after, but after I had restricted performance problem I notice the nosie had got louder it has only done 500 miles since repair. do you know how to check to see if oil is in the supercharger? Thanks again

There is a filler/level plug at the rear of the S/C however wouldn't really know how accessible it is or how much room between the S/C and bulkhead, may be able to use a mirror to locate/see it.

If it's had a new front end snout fitted by L/R 500mls ago you would like to think they fitted a new coupling then, as it is included with the new snout kit, or it is at least in genuine L/R kit's.

Thanks for the replys. As far as the dealer cares that any work done by them is not they problem I would not trust them at all now after speaking to them. Would not except any work that has been done has caused The problem & any car over 7 years old will have problems no matter what work has been done by them.

Why was the Snout replaced in the first place? I assume because the shaft/bearings were noisy or worn, or the coupling and torsion spring were worn or broken which was a issue in the early days.

Was told the snort had play in it which was causing my misfire on tickover, after parting with £1300 still have the misfire & now a supercharger worse then before it was so called repaired. So have no faith in anything Guy salmon Land Rover Bristol tell me

No expert obviously, but seeing as the snout is simply the mechanical shaft drive between the S/C belt and the s/c rotors I see no logical connection in play in that component and a engine misfire it's not as if its some kind of electrical distributor like the old day's. There is a TSB with reference to worn coupling, broken torsion spring, excessive backlash etc. and certainly no mention of a engine misfire as a being a symptom of any of any of those faults.

Excuse the "pun" but I think you were shafted. Just out of interest what are the fault codes displayed relating to the engine misfire.

Cheers

Gotta agree with Col here.

If the engines misfiring something is causing a problem with combustion, its either compression, spark or fuel.

Check if all your coils are decent, all the plugs arent Censored , the injectors aren't clogged etc etc

Codes coming up are
P0302-00 Cylinder 2 misfire detected ( Intermittent)
P0316-00 Misfire Detected on start-up ( First 1000 revolutions) Intermittent

Coils & plugs have been changed Only run on super unleaded or shell V-power have used a good injector cleaner a couple of times this year & both MAF sensors have been changed. At the moment more worried about the superchager noise worried that could go bang for Censored sake

Since its only 1 cylinder. I'd hazard a guess at valve clearances now. Does this engine use buckets like the 4.2?

Could also be more simple things like crank position sensor or camshaft sensor.

am easy test, is just compression test the engine
