United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Stornoway Grey
Resonance/Vibration

Hi, Wonder if anyone can help otherwise I’ll have to sell it!
I have a vibration/drone at 65-70mph, it’s driving me mad as I do a lot of motorway work.
So far I have -: changed wheels, tyres, front wheel bearings, front control arms, rear prop, g/box oil change, tracking.
It does in neutral or in gear so guessing it’s not engine related.
The noise is so bad in that I can’t hear on hands free unless I slow down to get out of the resonance.
My wife has a little Jeep Renegade that makes the Range Rover feel like an old lorry!
Thanks in advance
Lee

Thanks for the response. Certainly feels like prop due to the frequency of the vibration.
I found the centre prop bearing rubber in bits and thought bingo! Replaced the prop and it’s still vibrating.
I’ve replaced diff oils, they didn’t look too bad to be honest. Other than this problem the car is in beautiful condition but I’m at the point of selling as I dread long journeys in it.🥲

Hmm. Others here may have some more ideas but might be worth looking for a good local indie to take a look at it Robin

Is there a piece of trim that is loose? Something that flaps about in the airflow might just get to a resonance at a certain speed. There are various bits of trim - wheel arch liners, air deflectors under the front bumper, under cill trim, lower door trim panels. There are also some some NVH damper weights around the car, two particularly large ones that should be free to move on the chassis rails behind the rear wheels. I think there are some on the chassis further forward but these don't move. There are also vibration damper weights on the front brake calipers.

A lot of effort goes in to the development of cars to avoid such resonances, so it's possible to be one of those that is missing/damaged. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Stab in the dark but front diff. I’ve always thought I had somet doanong and vib through the steering wheel on mine since I got it. SWMBO said she couldn’t hear anything so left it. Fast forward a few years and there was a definite drone on or off throttle starting around 50mph+. Indie confirmed a grumbly diff using a sound stick and so just last month the diff was replaced and the car is now silent, I mean silent Bow down 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.
