RR Sport l494 OEM Rear Entertainment - additional screens

Hi All,

I have just purchased a 2014 RRS L494 and am new to this forum.

I have factory rear entertainment fitted and the 7 seater config RRS. We use the 3rd row quite often. I wanted to havel entertainment for passengers 6 and 7 that connected to the OEM setup I already have.

I purchased through a breaker OEM headrests with OEM screens fitted (same as what I have already). I was hoping to somehow swap them with the headrests I have in the 2nd row (rear seats) and connect them so the 3rd row also has the entertainment.

They came complete with all wiring headphones etc.

Is it possible to do what I am planning? The method I was hoping to use was to 'piggy back/ split' from the relevant headrest/screen in front seats - i.e back right to run off current drivers headrest. Where the current headrest plugs into at the bottom of the seat, split the wiring and then connect 2 screens instead of the 1 it currently has.

Any advice at all on this?

I dont mind if the additional screens even just mirror the original screens that are already in.

Is it possible to get/does anyone have a wiring diagram for the RR rear entertainment? in particular the screens?

I hope the above makes sense but ask away - would really appreciate the help and advice! I will post some pics of what I have and the connections later.

Thanks ALL

Hi akalair

Afraid I dont have the answer as not techie minded.
But find this interesting.
As I have the 7 seats too with rear entertainment. My rearmost seats get used now and then,

Great idea as kids in back have trouble seeing the screens, but would they not be too close to the face??

Interesting thought...

I dont think so, but...

I have considered getting a screen filter to tone down the colour on the current screen so would probably go the same way if necessary.

Would be great to get some info/feedback on this...

So the 2014 system has a CAN system where the screen communicates with the RSE module for inputs/commands. I have a feeling that splicing in 2 more screens would confuse the CAN. However I think the RSE can operate upto 5 screens, I’m just not sure what connections would be needed or how they would be wired in. I’m away from home for 4 months so haven’t access to my wiring diagrams at the moment but I’ll see what I can find. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

I’ve found a diagram.

So the white/green wire is the 12v switched.
The Brown/Blue (pin 10 and 11) is the ground and LR coding pin (spliced).
Yellow and Slate is CAN-
White and Brown is CAN+ (the CAN wiring colour is back to front at manufacture)

The above are common to all screens are spliced (soldered joints) so it looks like the CAN will accept multiple units on it.

each screen has its own LVDS cable and this is where I don’t know how more than 2 screens would connect as there are only 2 LVDS sockets. Perhaps if you could find a vehicle that has 4 or 5 rear screens from factory then you could see if it uses a Visteon unit and source the wiring diagram. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

I just went back through some of my records. I think these related to LVDS but I didn’t make note of exactly what they were. Note they will be for post 2012 system.
