OMG Mrs H has fallen in love with a porker!

Well we have had the C class for all of 2 months now and Mrs H is bored with it Rolling Eyes .
I still like it but of course that does not count Rolling Eyes
So went around a few dealers yesterday, no laughing looked at a 2nd hand XC90 ( I know it is not a real 4x4 but got a prescence on the road) New possible option the new shape CRV (very nice now aprt from I think the front looks very ugly)

Anyway at the Honda dealership there was an 04 Porker up for sale, http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/CARS_...0274428085 the dealerships directors wifes car.
It is a 4.5S with loads of extras, sorry guys but inside what a car! The salesman chucked me the key (not for a drive Crying or Very sad hardly any petrol in it anyway Rolling Eyes ) the engine sounded awsome out of the 4x near 4" tail pipes and I could live in the seats (upgraded ones of course)

The car was not in A1 condition, couple of scuffs on alloys, couple of scratches, chipped screen and grubby inside (stuff that would be sorted if it was a Porsche dealer selling it for 5k more I suppose) but was slightly tempting.

Insurance would go up to £650 and I would be top of the Greenpi$$ Christmas card list Laughing

Might well also have to look at the RRUK solution Whistle

well I've always like the Cayenne S, so I'd say its a nice choice - however a FFRR is a better option Thumbs Up

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Sumatra Black

Mixed views then lads! I'm a veteran of seven Porshe 911s, and was warned off the Cayenne by the dealer who it's VERY heavy on the juice, very big, and not terribly good as an offroader. Bullet-proof build quality and reliability though, but a diesel FFRR would probably make more sense? Question MY12 SDV6 HSE Sumatra/Ebony/Piano/Sidesteps/Privacy/Overfinch Olympus/JLR DRLs

The FFRR or even the XC90 Embarassed would make much more sense but for a 6-12 month play around the Cayenne is very tempting.
Just looked at the pictures on Autotrader, I think every oik at the dealership must have taken it out for a thrash since those pics were taken as it was certainly looking neglected yesterday

There are a few on AT cheaper than that one but with less extras Whistle

I don't believe they are chalk and cheese, Pelyma Very Happy Two different types of cheese maybe, but the difference in offroad capability is not so obvious as you might think.

As I say, I'm no offroading guru, but I maintain the opinion that in experienced hands the Cayenne would give the RRS a run for it's money offroad. It has equivalent systems to the RRS: air suspension, a TR equivalent, locking diffs etc. It's not a car on stilts, like the X5 for example. It was built from the ground up to have offroad capability. And as you rightly say - I expect the hardcore offroader isn't going to buy either the RRS or the Cayenne anyway....

Just because it's not made by LR, doesn't mean it's crap offroad Wink

I doubt the porker has anything like the ground clearence the RRS/D3 has. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Hmm.... where did Pelyma's post go? Question

I don't know the measurements but it can get off the ground very well. It has air suspension with the same up and downy features that the RRS does. It even has the same rock crawl mode, if I remember. Granted, a lot of Cayenne's get spec'd with the body kits that ruin any ground clearance, but then the same could be said of putting side steps on your RRS, or it getting an Overfinch makeover etc...

Why the Cayenne witch hunt? Confused Confused Confused

It's ugly as sin... but it IS capable offroad.

Hmmm a vanishing post! We'll agree to differ, the SC is handful enough off road a Cayenne would be a bloody nightmare, not to mention tyres and of course axle articulation. So whilst it may appear to be competent off road it is sadly lacking in real off road ability. I'm not knocking it because it doesn't have LR on the bonnet, there are plenty of good off roaders out there, but the porker isn't a real one. It is a bit like the Brabus SL that was on TG, on paper it looks great but in the real world it doesn't work. I would like to see VA driving the Turbo off road as I'm sure with his driving style it would go a fair way, but probably end up in a skip afterwards Wink
