Evening all

First post here.

I had the transmission fluid changed on my RRS 4.2 as it was approaching 90k on the clock and I had felt an occasional, very mild, ‘clunk’ when upshifting. I.e once every few weeks.

After the fluid and filter was changed yesterday the gearbox is now clunking more frequently and the clunks are harder / more noticeable. It now clunked 3/4 times on each journey.

I’ve only driven the car twice - once on the drive home from the garage and a short trip the day after. Approx 35 miles in total

Before I call up the garage (who I’ve not used before but was recommended) and call BS on the work they’ve done ....I wanted to see if anyone had any ideas what this might be? Does the new fluid need some time to “settle in”, do I need to drive it a bit more to get rid of the now, more noticeable clunk?

Grateful for any advice / experience which can be shared.

I would check what oil they used. If using an inferior cheap oil it could cause issues.
The 6speed on a 4.2 does get a fair bit of hammer, so changing the oil may have cleared out some gunge that was acting as a buffer.
I've heard a few people have success with Dr tranny, used fairly widely on d3, d4 and rrs

I believe the oil is direct from Land Rover as there was a delay getting the oil from them due to reduced operations.

I've driven it some more - up change clunks seem to have reduced a lot however there were a couple noticeable downshifts when accelerating.

Thanks for the link to the additive, looks like it might be a solution if the problem doesn't go away in the next few weeks... do I just screw off the gear shifter and pour down?

They've reset the gearbox adaptive so the gearbox is now having to re-learn how worn it is. It will improve as the ECU adjusts for the wear.

People think the adaptive gearbox is about the gearbox learning the driver's style but it's more about adjusting itself as internal components wear down e.g. clutches. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Thanks RRSTDV8 - that sounds more promising. The thought of potential transmission damage had me feeling quite queasy all week!

You all seem like a great bunch, I should have joined this forum sooner! On that note, does anyone know how to fix the front cigarette lighter and a sticky bonnet catch? haha!
