Now that the app has been upgraded, it is possible to schedule the pre-conditioning to switch on at a particular time from the app. However, my attempt to do this failed this morning. It's more difficult to programme than a VCR of the 1980s, so far as I can see.

I find that I often need a few tries to make any schedule changes before it reports it’s succeeded ... at least the first go tends to fail. I’m on Octopus Go and have my ‘preferred charge period’ set between 00:30 and 04:30 and you’d think that would then mean the car will only charge between these times but no, you also need to set a ‘departure time’ which I have set for ‘Every Day’ at 04:30 ... my car then starts to charge at 00:30 ... I believe you could set the departure time later and it ‘should’ still start to charge at 00:30 but haven’t tried. I’m only interested in having the car at 100% when I leave in the morning. Now, I have a 7kW charger and I believe that if you had a 3kW or ‘granny charger’ then my settings it would only charge partially (not enough time between 00:30 and 04:30 to fully charge from 0%) ... and you would get a message saying insufficient time to complete the charge, but I suppose then setting a later departure time you would still take advantage of some of the cheap rate. I want to take advantage of all of it! So in brief, to make sure you fit into the Octopus Go cheap rate you need to set both the preferred charging period AND the Vehicle Departure Time (Charging) to get this to kick off at 00:30. |
