Spare wheel

Looked at my spare wheel today.

Obviously it’s a space saver wheel and is labelled as such but it has a full size Continental Cross Contact tyre fitted, is this okay and does the speed limit still apply if used? Steve

I just bought a full size spare off e bay, there’s plenty available, I’d had a couple of times with the space saver on and just don’t get why they are fitted in cars where there is room. Joined the X5 45e club

Also if your towing a caravan you need a full size spare. Andy.

I do not understand why.

It's a full size wheel with a full size tyre. '08 RRS TDV8

The RRS's spare was the Disco 3's road wheel. No idea why they marked it as a reduced performance item as it's a full size wheel and tyre.

When I replaced the 20s on my old TDV8 with 19s, I bought an extra one to use as a full size spare. Fitted with 255/55/19 AT tyres (so larger diameter than the standard 19 or 20 inch setup), the spare just fits but it is very snug. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

The original 'space saver' spare wheels had a tyre that was thin in cross section (hence the title, space saver) and had very little tread.

As RRSTDV8 said, the wheel most of us have is a 6 spoke full size properly load rated item, and if it has a full size 'normal' tyre fitted, will not be subject to any restrictions.

Whilst it might not be of the same circumference as the other wheel/tyres, where a little common sense might prevail if it was used in such circumstances, there is no legal requirement to not exceed 50mph whilst using it.
