I know mines a TDV8 and so totally different power curve from yours but mine always seems to start in 2nd. What I don't know is whether any of the sensors realise that sometimes you are facing up hill and so select 1st. That'd be clever! Robin

ahh fair enough. i dont plan to do it in day to day traffic tbh. just sometimes launching off the line the car felt a bit meh and i was starting to wonder if id broken something. but knowing its in 2nd gear when i floor it in D explains that |

Ours always pulls away in 1st. So does my X5 V8.

Are you sure it always pulls away from standstill in 1st? How have you checked that? They are set up to use 2nd in normal driving using the gearbox in D. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

maybe not i think the biggest fuel economy booster is the lpg really so i cant see a few early shifts making a big diff |
