Autobox not staying in manual

Towed the caravan today and tried to find best mpg using cruise control and manual mode in the auto gearbox.

But the gearbox would not stay in manual, kept going back into auto.

Is this right to happen ?? RRS HSE SDV6 2012

Do you mean you used the paddles to select a gear? And then it went back to "D" after a period of time? If so, yes, that's normal. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

But if you stick it in Sport and then use the paddles, it stays in manual mode IIRC? Been a very long time since I used the paddles, though (also might be a <=2010 thing)? 2014 BMW 530d Touring, 2006 BMW 650i, 2018 Mini Cooper S

Yes if in sport mine will stay in manual, in D after somewhere around 10 seconds after last using the paddles it returns to auto. 13MY Range Rover Sport Autobiography SDV6 - mine

It will return to D if certain conditions are met.... but I can’t remember what they are. Mine will stay in manual if I’m not moving, no matter how long I wait. It also holds the gear if I’m changing throttle position as if readying for an overtake. If I don’t move the throttle it will return to normal quite quickly. You can also deselect manually by holding the Paddle back for 4 seconds??? 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

This reminds me of the first time a friend drove my car - it was already in Sport mode and he was using the paddles when he uttered the words "Doesn't this thing have a Sport mode?"

"Er, you're already in it."

*look of intense disappointment*

Then he tried to throw it around a corner like he was driving his car ... a Gallardo.

I thought we were about to end up in the bushes! 2014 BMW 530d Touring, 2006 BMW 650i, 2018 Mini Cooper S
