Just updated my Thinkware F770 Dash Cam to the new U1000, no particular reason just thought it was time for a change as the F770 must be well over 3 years old now. Was it worth it, No not really cosmetically it looks a little nicer rather than a rectangle box, better image from camera being 4K but that's about it, otherwise does just about the same as the F770 except twice the price. There is a additional motion detecting radar unit you can buy extra for it, which is basically a energy saving device when in Parking Mode which wakes the camera up if motion detected, only trouble is it only works if motion is detected at front of vehicle not the rear. Going to try a 250GB card in it to see if it works but is listed as only taking up to 128GB. One bonus is it uses the same hardwire power feed and cable for rear camera so no rewiring. Generally nice camera but to expensive to recommend buying one at the moment, maybe when price drops, but have to admit the F770 is a very good camera apart from looking a bit dated will take some beating. Forgot to mention due to the high resolution or whatever of the camera the PC viewer can't show both front and rear images at the same time on the screen.

That one's o.k. the others wifi, power etc are bit difficult to see same as the F770 though, would have been better if they were a slighty different colour but not a major issue.

I've commented before about this slight niggle with the F770. I would have thought it wouldn't have been too difficult to provide them with gentle LED back illumination when the engine is running. Interesting to hear that you still rate the F770. Guess I'll save my pennies for now. Robin

Yeah, personally still rate the F770 as one of the best and it will take some beating, a few extra features on the U1000 that probably never use anyway, bit like a lot of things these days just gimmicks that are not really needed. Meant to say they appear to have improved the GPS connectivity on the U1000 as it only takes a few seconds to connect now has even done it with car parked in the garage on a couple of occasions.

Nice feedback, guess I will stay with the 770. In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures

256gb card just stopped working so may not be compatible after all, been alright for a few days, I think it may have been after I tried it in the F770 as a experiment can't really see that would have done anything to the card though, re-formatted it but still not working will get another 256gb and try it, if that doesn't work not a real problem will just have to stick with 128gb one's.

May be of use to someone, but just had another play with 256gb instead of the maximum 128gb card Thinkware say it will accept, a new 256gb card works fine, however if you re-format the 256 card using the camera app via a smartphone or PC viewer (The camera it's self no longer has the Format button on it unlike the F770) it does something to the card and it will no longer work for whatever reason even if you do a full re-format on a PC. If however you only ever re-format the card using a Windows PC it will work fine. Don't really know why this should be the case but that's what seems to happen, just thought it might save somebody wasting a card, although the card still works just not in the camera. I suppose the obvious solution is buy a couple of 128gb card and just swap them over.

Robin, I'm inclined to think if anyone actualy mentioned it to Thinkware they would just say but it's only supposed to accept a maximum 128gb card.
