Have you noticed a loss of power, I suspect either a boost pipe has come undone or possibly even split.

The whistle is very loud not norma.l I dont have any loss of power or any smoke from exhaust. I started it friday morning to warm up after 15 minutes gave it a rev about 3000rpm and then got the whistling noise. It doesnt whistle at idle only at around 2500rpm. |

The guy that bought my Landcruiser after me came to see me a few weeks after getting it to ask me about it. It had developed a whistle, it was a hairline crack in the inlet manifold. It was caused by not letting the turbo cool down properly after driving it hard, it was a known problem on the 80 series 4.2 TD so much so that they made a "turbo timer" to keep the engine running for a few minutes after you shut off the ignition. I realise this is a very old thread, but I thought this might help anyone searching who comes across it, the turbos went on my 2008 Range Rover Sport 3.6L V8 diesel. I used https://best-turbos.com/ in Birmingham and they fixed with a reconditioned turbo for approx £2,500. Much cheaper than Range Rover dealers who wanted £7-8K. |

Or use a decent indie who will fit new turbos for a few hundred more than recon units.
