Engine ECU replacement

The engine ECU on my RRS maybe toast and codes unretrievable which means my next option is fitting a set of second hand matched coded units. My research so far tells me I need at least the ECU, fuse box and a key? But I have some questions I can’t find the answers to.

1 - Is this my only option?
2 - Is that all I require?
3 - What do I need to do with the key to operate the central locking?

Any help appreciated

1 it’s your cheapest option
2 you need instrument cluster.
3 should be the least of your worries Laughing

If you have a gap iid this should dig you out of most holes
It can program keys for example

Just been talking with Bell Autos and he said the same thing, special files required so I’ve emailed Gap. Could justify the cost of the tool and a useful thing to have going forward.

Ideally, you need a full set if modules that work on the HS CAN network

Different diagnostic tools read the VIN from different modules, and this can cause huge problems when it comes to diagnosing faults

Heard back from Gap and my ecu type can’t be recoded from the tool only a new ecu can be done. I’m just hoping someone can read the codes from my ecu? I’m loosing confidence in the place that has it at the moment.

Hi Mike, are you saying it’s not just a case of buying a matched set of modules then? Can’t catch a break Big Cry

I think for around £250 a module set is worth a go.
You will have the wrong mileage I guess

I’ve looked at few sets and should I be concerned about the gauges? One set the temperature gauge wasn’t at zero and another the speedo showed 20mph. If their coded and faulty am I into another world of trouble?

Dunno. Probably ok.

Buy a set that points to zero to be sure

I would go the ecu set route if if there was any information that it would work, nobody seems to of do it here or on Disc3. Steve

I had a D3 in for a new transfer case module

Replaced module, plugged in SDD, applied new firmware, car wouldn't start, and had every warning light in the world come on

The car had had a 2nd hand replacement EPB module, and so SDD pulled the VIN number from that, and downloaded the AS-BUILT data from JLR for said VIN, and applied that to the car, so the car was then reporting a different VIN and completely different CCF...

It was recoverable, but not after a few hours of shouting, swearing and panicking

For the car to start and run, you need the PCM, BCM, IPC and key from the same car. And that's assuming it the same spec etc, and CCF files match. But its not advisable for the above reason, and other modules will also need programming to clear VIN errors, which leads us to the above problem again...
