2005 Range Rover Sport that I have had for donkeys years and love it, really dont want to get rid of it.

Something is draining the battery when the car is switched off, after 5+ days of sitting unused it wont turn on. Had an auto electrician out today and tried a few things which has hopefully fixed it.

But if not, rather than spending loads, he suggested a solar charger in the cigarette lighter would make enough amps to counter the prasitic drain.

I know some cars shut down the 12v cigerette lighters totally when the car is switched off and wont even accept a charge going into it..... does anyone know if this applies to a 2005 RRS? It would be awesome if I could trickle charge it via the ciggy lighter but dont want to spend money on a solar panel if the cars going to lock down the lighter socket after 5 mins. -[RRS 4.4 v8 HSE ]-

You can get a solar charger which will plug into the OBD port. The connection is permanently live (certainly on my 2008 RRS) so no mods needed. I think my one is from the AA.

Oh, and by the way, Dr Robs test suggestion is a good one but make sure the car has been left for 10-15 mins or so as I seem to recall seeing on here that some systems stay live for a bit after you switch off, then shut down. Robin
