United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 Autobiography Orkney Grey
Tracking

Guys.

I looking for some advise. My RRS has always since I purchased it have what has felt like the tracking was off. It had 20" and I moved to 21" and same issue.

So when driving along if I take my hands off the steering wheel the steering wheel moves to say 11:58 on a clock dial. Assuming the top of the steering wheel is 12.

I have had the car on laser alignment but its still doing it. Any ideas as to what it might be?

Thanks in advance. ===========================================

Mine was a bit like that, I simply shortened one track rod and lengthened the other by exactly the same amount, also calibrated the steering angle sensor and now it is spot on. Assuming when you let go of the wheel it doesn't drift to one side.

Cheers

Thanks mate. It does feel like it drifts. What I am insure of if its just the camber in the road. sometimes it does not do that.

So I can get the steering wheel sensor realigned? ===========================================

Can't say for sure calibrating the steering angle sensor actualy had any effect but obviously can't do any harm, if you have a IID tool you can do it yourself or any good Indi. should be able to do it.

If it's a non-constant behaviour i.e., only does sometimes, then I'd suggest it's just a bit of good old fashioned camber following by the tyres. Big tyres are more prone to it than narrower tyres, generally, and these things do wear some big rubber. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Laser alignment isn’t the best for these cars,you really need it on a computerised alignment with the car in ttm tight tolerance mode.

I can only speak from personal experience, but this is a printout for the after reading on my car when in UK done by a well known indi in Oxfordshire using Hunter equipment, but the steering wheel was so far off centre I had to take the wheel off and move it a couple of splines on the shaft to get it anywhere near centre although the car drove as straight as a die. I have just replace the lower front arms over here and had to refit steering wheel to original factory position prior to alignment.
What I hadn't realised until I read the workshop manual when doing the front arms is it also specifically say to centre steering wheel and check the length of exposed thread on the track rods and if it differs by more than 2mm to adjust them until the same amount is showing whilst doing the alignment, there was difference in mine of 12mm so I simply screwed one in and one out till the were both the same amount, refitted steering wheel back in factory fitted position on shaft and low and behold the steering wheel was 99% central just slightly off to O/S, had alignment done, minute tweak of track rods one in one out by same amount and steering wheel is bang on centre. I can only assume back in the UK they failed to set the track rods first, hence why it was so far off centre. If I now take my hands off the steering wheel on a flat level road the car stays in a straight line and the steering wheel is still dead centre even under braking.

Mine was the same as Cols, had the Hunter done but the wheel was off centre, I adjusted the track rod ends by the same amount and it’s now central. The hardest thing is trying to gauge how much adjustment is required. I didn’t want to be adjusting one way and then the other and then back again. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

It was a little hit and miss but I moved mine by one flat on the track rods and found that was the exact amount I needed to move them, obviously it would depend on how far out the wheel is but I found one flat was a good initial guide to work out how much you need to move it.
