Those all seasons are taking much longer braking distance than proper summer or for the season now the winter tires.

This is an interesting test. In the dry, summer tyres are best even in the cold. In wet winter weather, all season tyres are probably best. On snow/ice, , well, that's been done before and should be fairly obvious (though the difference is not huge between winter and all-season).

If it’s cold outside without snow or ice, just wet or dry, even then all-seasons are less good in grip than proper winters...

If I was to keep with the sport long term I would probably opt for a set of 22" rims with summer tyres & then go for 21" with winters & just change them as & when. Andy.

The move to "winter-rated summer tyres" such as the Michelin CrossClimate is likely to work well in countries like the UK where, most of the time, it's cold and wet in winter rather than icy and snowy. Sure, Scotland and some upland areas elsewhere in the UK get decent ice and snow, but for most of the population a full winter tyre is probably overkill.

There are a few trials that say the opposite, with All season tyres braking shorter than Winters on wet and dry cold roads, its when there is snow and ice that the Winters come more into their own. Bit like life, everything is a compromise depends what your priorities are ![]() gone Porsche Cayenne 2020 gone Corris Grey HSE Dynamic 2016 gone Ipanema HSE lux 2010 gone Rimini HSE 2005 !! |

I was going to say the CorssClimate SUV but then I remembered you're on 21 inch rims and they only go up to 20.

Did you watch the video? Summer tyres (never mind all-season tyres) stopped quicker in dry conditions than winter tyres even down to 0 degrees. All-season tyres stopped quicker than winter tyres in wet conditions down to 2 degrees. Winter tyres were better in the snow. RRS MY17 SDV6 AB Evoque MY17 TD4 AB |

Decent tyres are worth the extra over Chinese ditch finders... ![]() 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

I run Conti Sport contacts in the summer and Pirelli scorpion winters for the winter. If I was going to run an all season it would be the Pirelli Scorpion Verde, but That’s just personal preference as I found they had a more direct turn in. Out of interest where are you based? I have a set of almost new cross contacts which I think are in the right size and would be keen to get rid of them at a discounted price. |

My present car came on Pirelli Scorpion Verde tyres rather the the Michelin of the previous car. I mucgh prefer the feel of the Pirellis. For winter I use the Scorpion Winter tyres as we visit the area around Geneva quite frequently and winters are mandatory in the area. The big drawback of the winter tyres is in my opinion the big negative effect on fuel consumption, I reckon they lose me 3mpg. Do others share the same observation? Tim
