Quick question, does anyone know if a 2010 TDV8 (no stop-start) would have an AGM battery or standard lead acid?

It's not a stop start model, but all 2010>models were smart charge, so require an AGM |

As normal L/R confuse things, according to the parts list if I read it correctly, RRS1 Petrol Variants only ever had wet cell batteries fitted, 3.0 and 3.6 up to VIN No. BA716316 had wet batteries, BA716317 on had AGM's fitted. My S/C certainly never came with a AGM battery and that's a MY13 car, although I have fitted one now and nothing needed to be coded when fitted.

This is what I fitted to mine with no problems, it is the equiavilent of the UK 019, although Tayna say UK 020 fit's, however I personaly couldn't get the 020 in as it's 40mm longer than the original 019 and would have had to push a lot of wiring out the way and force it in and not worth the effort for slightly more AH/Power.

I previously had Two Yuasa batteries fail in quick succession so only ever fit Varta now as I think the original L/R battery was a re-branded Varta, may have been just unlucky though with the Yuasa.

Halfords may not change it for you. They have a list of "suitable vehicles" and the RRS isn't on it. Or at least it wasn't when I changed the battery in my TDV8 a couple of years ago. Check before buying. I fitted the Yuasa HASB019 Silver myself. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

Battery is on its way to me now anyone know if the smart-charge cars need the battery coding (or "registering" to use BMW parlance) for the charge profile to be correct on the new battery?

You will not need any codes when swapping battery, if I remember correctly all you will have to do is reset the date as it defaults to 2009 and reset the electric windows "one touch operation" easy enough, also the sunroof if you have one. As far as the BMS is concerned reset it if you have a diag. tool, if not apparently they do periodically do a self calibration test so not a real issue, I think I would just make sure the new battery is fully charged before fitting it. I replaced my Lead Acid with a AGM and never changed any setting on the car to say it had been changed to AGM, different rating or anything else, that was three years ago and have never had any battery issues at all.

You just need to show your proof of trade. A simple letterhead or business card will suffice See 'what proof of trade do I need?' here for more info... https://www.halfords.com/advice/customer-services/trade-card Kev MY2014 L405 RR Vogue SE 4.4 SDV8 in Corris Grey MY2010 L320 RRS HSE 3.0 TDV6 in Stornoway Grey |
