Alloy Wheel Scrape

Hey Guys,

Moving off from a traffic light and I clipped my drivers side rear wheel on a kurb turning right at about 7/8/9mph - car bounced a little bit when it hit the kurb. Have attached a picture of the damage;

Getting a smart repairer down tomorrow to repair it, do you think I should get the alignment checked? If it was just the rear wheel the steering wouldn't go out of alignment would it?

Not too happy with doing it - haven't done it to a wheel in years but oh well!!

Thanks

Lol if you think it hasn't damaged it then I won't have to align it ! Razz

A COUPLE OF DAYS !!!! Lol made me laugh

What does this snap-on computerised aligner do? Is it better than the Hunter systems?

I've had nightmares in the past getting wheel alignments done on RRSs so I really hope its not out.

If its a back wheel is there any easy way to tell other than eventual tyre tread wear? It's not going to affect the steering much is it? Non JLR Vehicle

The system I’ve got is on par with the hunter,,a alignment system is only as good as the tech using it,,ive seen the clowns in my local Kwik fit & they cannot use their hunter. You need to put the Rangerovers in tight tolerance mode which I can do with my Snapon diagnostics.
I doubt you’ve knocked your alignment out on the rear unless you hit it with some force & looking at the wheel it hasn’t hit too hard.

PS my offer still stands & you can have my sdv6 for the loaner Laughing Laughing Andy.

If that had knocked the alignment out then I would be embarrassed to call it a Land Rover. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

Hey mate

I was at a traffic light and pulled off so couldn't have got up to more than 7/8/9mph before I clipped the rear wheel on the curb next to the traffic light.

Embarassing thing is I've done it before on exactly the same corner but this time the car pinged the curb and felt like it bounced off, then again the scrape on the wheel would seem to contradict a bounce.

I took the car out for a drive tonight to see if I could "feel" anything and it seems like it's steering straight but I guess if its a rear wheel you can't really tell anything through the steering?

Andy (or anyone Smile); As I only dinged the rear wheel, can I just get the rear wheels aligned and if so, does that mean they don't have to tie the steering wheel down? Last time I had my alignment done the centre destroyed my steering wheel by tying it down with straps that scratched up the entire wheel so I'd rather they didn't go in the car if I knew they weren't going to care about the interior.

Andy I'd love to come to you but Yorkshire is a bit far from London Smile) Does your system just clip on the wheels? Non JLR Vehicle

the range rover sport is designed to go off road over rocks and such to a little tap on a kerb wont affect the geometry...

I’ve got one of these that just sits on the seat & holds the wheel.I would stop worrying about your alignment,I doubt very much you’ve knocked it out, like everyone else says these vehicles are built for things like this.

Yeah I guess you're right I'm going to leave it!!

I'll take all of your words for it.

But if a pot hole can knock out the alignment how can't bouncing off the side of a kerb at 7/8/9mph ? Smile

PS: they used ratchet straps that rubbed on the wheel and ruined it your machine looks a lot neater !! Non JLR Vehicle

Are your SVR wheels dirty silver? Or a custom color? They don’t appear black or standard silver.

Nice machine !

Just had wheel repaired now, took jack off, etc

Started car and put it in reverse and made a really funny two pitched screeching sound, might have just been my foot dragging on the brake, not sure, was a bit disconcerting lol.

Andy any ideas?

He asked for the suspension to be locked in low access mode for him to jack it up even though the manual said to put it in off road mode !! Didn't argue with that though Non JLR Vehicle

Here's a picture of the wheel repaired;

Do youo think the screeching noise was the Electronic Parking Brake not releasing properly or the suspension trying to go down because it was confused or me just holding on the brake.

Do you get any weird noises from Range Rovers when you've changed a wheel and first move off in one?

Thanks in advance.

Also used some decent guys based in Sutton - mobile guys, happy to recommend if anyone needs their wheels done. Non JLR Vehicle

Did a test today.

Feels like a combination of the electronic parking break not disengaging properly in reverse, lowering the suspension (or the suspension lowering due to it having been jacked up) and having your foot on the brake combined will basically make the noise I heard.

No idea why any thoughts? Any damage you think? Non JLR Vehicle
