Hi Faria. Re-chipping shouldn't affect your warranty unless something happens to the engine for which the remap is directly attributable. Even then, they've got know about, or find the remap to apportion blame.

Hi Voyager. Be careful with the first ebay option, too cheap, probably just over-fuels. There's many experts on this Forum who will advise you about proper remaps and ECU upgrades. Remaps/rechipping is normally pretty expensive, circa £500 upwards. You're paying for the research, expertise and equipment. Does it make a difference.., you bet! The engine becomes more efficient and smoother, giving better like-for-like economy (15%) and improving overall acceleration. However, most people use the additional available power and therefore dont see many benefits in fuel economy. It's really a case of one or the other.., you cant have your cake AND eat it, I'm afraid!

The device in the eBay link is probably just a 2p resistor in a box which fools the ECU into overfuelling, and not in any kind of calculated way...

Most 'plug-in' box manufacturers use a simple resistor type device that plugs in to the common rail pressure control signal.....the 'better' plug in boxes also take a control signal from the injection control module so that they only raise fuel pressure in relation to rpm/injector control signal.

Hi Voyager pretty much as Martin said, you only get what you pay for, my remap cost £411. i think, and i personally think its worth every penny, i have noticed a big saving in fuel consumption, and the car is much sharper, all the companies that offer this service are pretty much the same and reading reports on here you wont go far wrong by using one of the sponsors some of my Previous cars -------------------------------- P38 Range Rover Autobiography RRS 2.7 HSE Silver RRS TDV8 HSE silver FFRR Vogue black Disco3 HSE silver RRS 2.7 HSE silver RRS 3.0 HSE BALTI BLUE ______________________________ current vehicles RRS 3.0 L494 Autobiography Audi R8 V10 Spyder AC Cobra Landrover Defender 90 Landrover Defender 110 Suzuki Jimney |

Thanks for all the info guys, I will be taking delivery of my RRS HSE in April and will be considering these options after a few thousand miles as previous posts suggest "running in" the engine before chipping. I can't understand why the techs @ Land Rover don't just eek the max economy/performance from their own engines for the standard car if such re-mapping is available without adversleyaffecting the engine. |

Also Envoy, apart from obvious warranty issues and preventing damage to the engine from excessive full power ouput, I've also been told there's also an EU emmisions element involved (woking to lowest common denominator)? Would make sense for LR, "one size fits all" euro settings? Trouble with that principle is, if correct, it means we're all pegged to nutty Swiss low levels? I could be wrong, I'm sure somebody will humiliate me if I am??? |
