This weeks job - Dynamic Response & Power Steering Fluid

So a few days ago I decided to replace the dynamic response fluid & filter for the hydraulic anti roll bars. Changing the filter was an easy job and I did a few drain and refills of the reservoir over the course of a few days until the fluid was nice and clear.

As I had plenty of new fluid, I thought I'd also pump out the power steering fluid. Upon draining it, I could see it was disgusting and very very black. A few drain and refills later, it's running lovely clean fluid again. Strangely, my steering does feel a bit lighter and somehow 'nicer'. Placebo effect maybe? Laughing

I get the majority of my fluids from Smith and Allan and was pleased to see that they offer a cold climate power steering fluid and it's quoted as being particularly suited for Land Rover ACE systems.

Whilst it isn't in the service schedule to replace the power steering fluid, surely it cannot be good for the system to have this black, horrible, dirty fluid in there and I hope changing it is a good preventative measure for the power steering components that rely on the fluid. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Kev

As long as it meets the spec, I'm not bothered about the colour. Well, as long as it isn't black that is! Kev
