Wales
South Wales

I had an [abbreviated] wander round South Wales on Saturday. Some scratchy bits; some open moorland bits.

It was supposed to be two days but I got seriously Censored-off and came home mid-afternoon. I always slowed and waited for the car behind me (the passenger of which was closing the gates) but the car in front of me just kept Censored ing off without us. After the third time of finding myself at a junction without sight of any other vehicles I made the decision to come home before the urge to shunt an Isuzu off a hill overwhelmed me. At times I was driving slightly faster than I might otherwise do, in an vain attempt to keep the car in front and the car behind in view.

The only 'problem' I had was encountering a step of wet rock on an uphill slope and that I didn't think would be much of an issue: the front wheels scrabbled about and didn't go anywhere. A slightly different line and Rock Crawl mode got round it.

The two most noticeable things of the trip were the amount of fly-tipping (in the middle of nowhere) and Japanese Knotweed all over the place.

Yet again, the "Footballers' car" kept up with the Defenders, tricked-up Discos and their ilk. Wink

(Yes, the last minute or so is a byway through the middle of a golf club. The 'graunching' noise is not the car but the giro-stabilised camera mount objecting to a non-GoPro camera).

I love the romp through a golf course and the golf cart emergency stops going on. Fantasised about that before! Rolling with laughter L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

Well, apparently, giving up in frustration after being left floundering at three junctions not knowing where to go (the third being for ten minutes), is "rude" (very possibly) and a number of my personality flaws have been listed in great detail. The ever-expanding gap between my car and the one in front was due to me not driving fast enough.

And I still say the run through the golf course (behind a GLASS rep) was too fast and will only have peed off the golfers. Rolling Eyes

If they are using 'not going fast enough' as an excuse, that's a poor argument. You should never leave anyone behind. Kev

Root-cause analysis points to:

a) Convoy rules not being followed by the car in front
b) Radio being intermittent, meaning the convoy process was open-loop.

I need to invent a Bluetooth alarm that goes off if adjacent cars become separated...

All discussed in detail and sorted-out. Thumbs Up

Leaving the end car behind is a big no-no. That's the first one to get picked-off by monsters, angry natives or aliens. Very Happy

The plan was for us to move there soon and I have even been learning Welsh, look you, Boyo. Some Censored Japanese Knotweed on adjacent land may have kyboshed the move. Big Cry No mortgage. No insurance.

Wales is full of the stuff! Shocked

On "our" trip to mid-Wales I did get on the radio and make noises about being left behind on the second day. I was trying to keep the guy behind in sight and lost the guy in front. Leader slowed when I did this. If your trip didn't get the same response then they're Censored . Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

All sorted, Wayne. Primary problem 100% the idiot who ignored instructions re convoy rules. Such a simple system but very effective. He is the weakest link, etc., I think he was desperate to prove his car could keep up with Solihull's finest, not to mention not listening...

Apart from an occasional prompt, it had always worked well.

Channel 10 didn't seem to work well round there; channel sixteen (used by the othe group) was fine. I'll be back to finish it in a couple of months. One idiot = many problems.
