Glow plug

My glow plug dash light has come on and stays on even with ignition off.

The engine starts and runs faultlessly.

How can I disable the glow plug dash indicator as no need for engine start up assistance?

The manual points to engine compartment fuse 6 as related to glow plugs but that fuse is testing OK.

The 3 glow plug fuses shown on the fuse box lid are absent and have been since new.

Any help would be appreciated. RRS (MY13) Santorini Black SDV6 HSE luxuary

what a bizarre fault.

I would check the manual to see if it means something else/significant.

The dash lights are all network controlled, so I doubt removing a glowplug fuse is going to turn it off.
Well I guess its possible.

The manual is silent on the subject of glow plugs.
I agree that it’s probably not possible to interrupt the dash glow plug warning light.
I would have assumed it was controlled by a timer relay but I can find no indication of that. RRS (MY13) Santorini Black SDV6 HSE luxuary

No. ecu does the timing drivin standard relays.
This isn’t the 1980s

Then pink fuses power glow plugs.

Glowplug relays are missing on yours
Unless they changed the design in later models

Hi Andy
Should I test the pink fuses? Or even remove them?

I’ve just noticed that FL19 a heafty 60A fuse (see photo), down at the lower end, relates to the glow plugs.

I’m wondering if by removing FL19 it might succeed in disabling all the glow plugs without any harmful side effects.

Anyone got a view on that?

I would be more concern with getting it fixed before winter?

When its 0°C outside your car will not start.
Do you need your car to start at 0°C

It's possible this unit maybe at fault.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/09-16-DISCOVERY...SwN~ZbmRYu

or one of the glowplugs have failed.
Do you have a multi meter to test the glowplugs ?

I think I need to disconnect my battery for a minute or 2 in order to replace the 60A glow plug fuse.

My concern is to know if there is a particular procedure to follow and more important will it upset any settings etc on the vehicle (MY12 Sport) when I reconnect?

I assume it is safe to disconnect just the negative.

Any help would be much appreciated. RRS (MY13) Santorini Black SDV6 HSE luxuary

Can anyone please accurately point to where exactly the glow plug relay is located on MY12 Range Rover Sport 3.0D? RRS (MY13) Santorini Black SDV6 HSE luxuary

I don't know where it is, but if you look at those ebay links, you can see what it looks like.

In the engine bay somewhere.

Hi there,

To me it looks like your two 70A glow relays are missing in the photo.

Also looks like one of the fuses for the glow plugs isn't there, (1 for each bank)
Have the items ever been there?
Which fault codes do you get?

Could be wrong as I took the info from 2.7L TDV6 Workshop manual, not 3L
maybe it has changed, if so I apologise.

All the best,
Allan

You are quite correct about the absent relays/fuses. They are not missing. There have never been any in those locations since new and the fault has only just shown up.

I’m searching for the location of the BIG glow plug relay which I know to reside outside the fuse/relay box adjacent to the battery.

One well informed person suggested that I disconnect the neutral from the battery and then short the loose cable to the live to discharge any latent charge in the system and then reconnect. This apparently resets the ECU to factory. RRS (MY13) Santorini Black SDV6 HSE luxuary

looking at spare parts, yes somewhere in engine bay, maybe bulkhead.
https://www.ebay.ie/itm/RANGE-ROVER-SPORT-...3d664f2c81

you can reset ecu that way or just leave negative off for 1/2 hour or use diagnostic device.

About your problem, thinking if it isn't relay, it could be ignition switch or contact therein causing the glow plugs always on, are they on?

have you access to code reader or live status?

No I haven’t got access to a code reader.

Yes the glow plug warning light remains on permanently.

I will try to do an ECU reset tomorrow.
