I’ve had no noises at all. The car is new to me. I jumped in and I had a amber fault light come on. But I can feel the hand brake is still on if I try and move. |

Is this the handbrake fault light?,, a serious problem would give a red light I would have thought, would still be tempted to check the obvious first,,, fuses, switch and wiring if you haven't had any other warning signs. 2010 RRS, TDV8

Not sure if it helps but I did manage to drive my RRS for about 30 miles with the handbrake jammed on. Only stopped when someone in the next lane shouted to me that I was on fire!! The I noticed the smoke!

My experience, and probably that of most of us here, is with the L320 which as we all know has a central module which operates cables to draw on the shoes inside the drums. My understanding is that the OP's L494 has separate "modules" that work directly on each rear wheel, so no cables to screech.

I agree eaters,,, after mine completely crapped itself my indie said dirt was a bit enemy of the EPB system and it was worth having it serviced on a regular basis. Just had it done at the last service,, and for the sake of £60 was stripped cleaned adjusted correctly and a sticky caliper freed off,,,,, beats shelling out £1200+ for new module and discs etc. 2010 RRS, TDV8

I'm afraid its the way forward with these beasts. Best to keep on top of issues as they arise, and ideally before they arise!

L494 has a totally different system to the L320. L494 system works directly on the disk through a servo on each rear wheel directly applying the pad to the disk, and does not have the old "top hat" brake shoe system fitted to the L320. I notice that a lot of comments above are from L320 owners which have a totally different system. Maybe one of the servo motors has jammed on.
