It’s been a pleasure…
…but after nearly 2 and a half years I’ve traded in my RRS for something a little (a lot!) smaller and a little (a lot, hopefully) cheaper to run.
I’m thinking about retiring and so it’s difficult for me to justify the running costs and depreciation of the Sport. I’d always wanted one and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it while I’ve had it so the itch has been scratched and it’s time to move on to something more practical for my situation….
I give you my new 2019 Suzuki Jimny.
From the sublime to the ridiculous? Maybe, but I’m a keen angler and the Jimny should suit my new lifestyle well. Enough room for my gear in the back (back seats flat), economical, second to none off-road ability, lay flats seats (for those late night/early morning sessions) and capacity for my kayak on top too. Side hinged rear door means access is easy even with a kayak on the roof. It’s surprisingly well equipped, with autonomous braking, lane departure warning, carplay/android Auto and the headlights & auto-dip system outshine the RRS’s. I will miss the park heating and front screen demister on those cold, frosty mornings though, without doubt the best features of the RRS.
OK, it’s on-road performance isn’t going to set the world on fire, but it’s OK cruising at motorway speed (just) and does it without burning half as much fuel. We have the wife’s car for more mundane, fast or long journeys.
My RRS (2012 3.0 SDV6 autobiography) was sublime to drive, proved reasonably reliable, although it did let me down twice at the most inopportune moments (mass airflowmeter and seized brake caliper). It’s simply the running costs that have made it not viable for my future needs.
I wish you all well and will pop by from time to time to time to see how things are getting on. Oh, my roof bars are for sale in the for sale section if anyone’s interested.Merc C220 estate Sport AMG
