So I’ve been reading lots about people changing tyres to 45 profile from the 275/40/20 ! My question is does this do any damage or cause any problems?? As I’m due to get some new tyres this month and I’m thinking is it worth changing to the 45

They will not cause any damage or issues, will improve ride quality a little, look better as they fill the arches more and will make no difference to the speedo accuracy, in fact will probably make it more accurate.

Just make sure you change them all at the same time though.If you only change 2 on same axle you could do serious damage. Andy.

Gives a bit more sidewall against kerbs etc too

Yes, you should inform your insurer and get confirmation in writing that the mod has been declared and accepted.
If involved in a crash, an assessor will pick it up, it’s one of the things they are trained to look for.
Insurers will look for anything that shifts blame, or avoids payout, or both

I actualy told my insurance company what I had done when car in the UK. just listed it under modification/alterations etc. never made any difference to premium.

Yep, that’s all you need to do, declare the change and if accepted, then it’s all ok.

last October I swapped my Michelin 275/40/20 summer tires for Goodyear Ultra Grip 275/45/20 winters. No problem at all.

Hi mate.

I changed mine for 45 profile tyres after reading favourable comments on here regarding the ride quality.

I have to say that it is marginal at best and you would be better off dropping your tyre pressures to soften the ride if that is your primary motive for the change.

255/55/R19 would be a better bet if ride comfort is what you desire.

They are cheaper and give a much more forgiving ride as well as having a spare wheel of the same size
