Fuel consumption sucks

Hi guys, just wondering if anyone else gets these numbers on a 2.7 tdv6 Town use and I’m getting around 17mpg and even on good A roads at 40 to 50 mph I’m lucky to get 26 and that’s driving like an old lady. I’m sure this can’t be normal as my jeep SRT can get close to these numbers and it’s a 430bhp 6.1 petrol.

Yep, that's pretty bad - my father has a 2.7 TDV6 Disco 3 and using it on farm/off-road it's about 23MPG and certainly never below 20MPG...

Maybe try a Millers Diesel Eco Max treatment - I've just bought one for my 2014 SDV6 and am told it can work wonders...!

you should get 21MPG round town

They are quite efficient at 50 MPH

Excessive fuel consumption is indicative of an issue somewhere such as a faulty injector. I sounds like it needs to be hooked up to look at live values for the injector trims etc. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Yep, that's poor. Even driving mine like I stole it I get better than that. I regularly travel to/from Aberdeen from Newcastle, and usually get anywhere between 28 to 32 mpg. at home around the doors 21/23. You need some live data from an IID to see what the injectors are doing. Sounds like there's an imbalance somewhere

There are a number of things that could cause excessive fuel usage. The fuelling system on modern vehicles is pretty complicated. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I’m wondering if it’s been remapped badly. It’s also a pig to start when it’s cold. The injectors were rebuilt not long ago.

Glow plugs on the way out/failed if it's not cold starting.

Interestingly, the glow plugs are used when the engine is running, not just for starting. If the plugs are failing, the engine will presumably use more fuel to compensate.

Glow plugs can be tested so it might be worth looking at them. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Glow plugs can be a Censored to get out without breaking them on older cars. Mine
was a 2005 with 115k miles and my garage could only get 2 out to replace. Still
have 4 new oe ones in the garage somewhere.

Have traded for an E class estate since.

More likely injector issues

I get the same mpg on my 2.7 around town. Always around there this time of year as the FBH works as well. Short trips every day, injectors checked and are good, so are turbo hoses ect, egr's blanked, 102,000 on the clock. Does the same as my old D2 did, so I don't worry.
