From L494 to I-Pace

So SHMBO has been grumbling about the size of the RRS, which we bought to replace a Beemer X3. The difference between those two was night and day, so we plumped for the RRS about a year ago.

But, we spend our life on the school run, down narrow country lanes, so I tend to agree that the RRS is a shade large for that sort of driving. Especially when you meet a skip or oil lorry coming the other way at Mach 3.

Soooo... she’s keen go to fully electric, and having looked at Tesla (waaay too large) and BMW i3 (way too small], it looks like we’re settling on the Jaguar i-pace.

I test drive one recently, and was very surprised. For a start the controls are not too far off the look and feel of recent RR models, which makes sense. But the finish was immaculate. And then there’s the acceleration—oh my word, these things are fast off the line. I’ve driven a Tesla too, and the drive in the Jaaaag is way more engaging and less ‘lardy’.

Not decided yet, it the warranty on the RRS is up soon, so It’ll be getting traded in for something. There’s a rumour that there will be a fully electric 2020 Defender too. Now that would be exciting.

The only thing that worries me is being an early adopter of a brand new vehicle. But it’ll be under warranty I guess. MY15.5 HSE

The RRS is just about exactly the wrong vehicle for that sort of driving... Rolling with laughter 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

You can say that again, RRSTDVI. Although the school car park is full of them, all muddy from the endless sugar beet lorries at the moment. MY15.5 HSE
