Fuel gauge fun on 2010 RRS

Afternoon,

I have a particular annoying but unusual issue with the fuel gauge. The backstory, had to fit a new alternator and a new battery within the last month, gauge was working fine until this point. After having changed the afore mentioned parts when I turn the ignition on the fuel gauge is immediately empty (--- miles) with the low fuel warning.

I can get the gauge to work again for a very short period by doing the following procedure:

- Disconnect the battery
- Reconnect the battery
- Turn the ignition on.

Then to get rid of warnings i have to:

- Close the bonnet
- Close the boot (apparently disconnecting the battery opens the boot, N.B the boot release button is also playing up!)

By which point when I get back in the car the gauge is once again F.U.B.A.R.

Looking for some inspiration in where to go next with the DIY approach or whether if this is an electrical fault and I should be looking to find a decent auto electrician?

Would also appreciate any links people have to wiring diagrams/fuse/relays locations etc...

Cheers,

Duncan,

I had this fault on my 2010 RRS, one minute gauge reading zero then full then zero again even though the tank was full and it was a known fault which LR knew about.

It went into the stealership and did what they had to and all was well. My car was under LR warranty at the time so it was no cost.
IIRC it was a software problem. Maybe this might put you in the right direction, i hope it helps.

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Thanks Col,

I had actually just been reading an older post where you had recommended the same thing. Sounds very similar, has anyone tried following that document the DIY way? Or is it a stealer only job?
