Command Shift problem

Hoping someone can advise, I have an issue with the steering wheel mounted command shift buttons, when operated they indicate command shift active but don't always change gear. Shortly afterwards gearbox fault pings up on the dash and puts pay further operations. The gear lever command shift works fine with out fault.
I have checked the buttons on the circuit boards and all test ok with a meter. Does any one know how they connect to the gear box? I assume they feed inputs to a can bus module somewhere. Could there be an issue with the rotary coupler or are there any other know problem points to investigate. It doesn't really cause an issue but it's annoying it doesn't work as it should . All the other steering wheel buttons work fine.
It's 2010 tdv8 by the way.
Any pointers greatly appreciated.

I think you need the fault codes read. Is it up and down that don’t work or just up? 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

Spain

Does it work OK if you shift by using the gear lever, if so it could be a rotary coupler issue. In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.
