GPS in a 2006 Sport - any tips?

I really struggle sometimes with my GPS settings. I have recently been in South Devon trying to avoid the narrow lanes. If for example I enter TOLL ROADS and MAJOR ROADS or just MAJOR ROADS hoping it will stick to A Roads it just doesn't get the message that I want to stay on A Road only (no toll roads in Devon). Any tips as to how I can make my needs known would be gratefully received!! Andrew Kennedy

Agreed, in car satnavs should only be used in emergency - tomtom is the way to go
