England 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Santorini Black
UAE Warranty

Hi all

So I’m in Dubai for a couple of weeks and Goggle has realised this and keeps bombarding me with adverts linked to my web browsing habits.

I keep getting adverts for the 2019 Range Rover Sport with, wait for it, a 5 year Land Rover Warranty as standard and a free 5 year service pack.

A shame that they don’t offer the same to us peasants in the UK eh?

Jim

And the UAE price in pounds s? A lot more than we pay in the UK I bet and they won’t need to have cover for snapping cranks because you can only by S/C’s and SVR’s? And petrol is still 30p a litre? 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

All irrelevant Tim. You can easily spend £100k on a LR in the UK - isn't that enough when others give 7 year warranties on vehicles costing half that figure? 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

You are probably right Wilf, but don't you think if you was spending 80-120k on a vehicle it would be more reliable than a 20k vehicle.

You would hope so, but in reality that isn't the case. All the prestige marques have their issues.

And yet if you look at the reliability heroes, most of them are from "budget" vehicles. And those vehicles often don't lack for features or equipment, either.

Lexus being an exception. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

Ironically, LR's more reliable vehicles are also their cheapest vehicles - the Evoque and FL2. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

The 5 year warranty is interesting indeed however with a bit of haggling a service plan is usually included in UK deals anyway...

I don’t think there is a reliability issue with JLR. Where the problem lies is with the way they deal with customers who have technical problems - their first line of defence is to deny that there is a problem and if there is one it is of the owner’s making. They will argue Black is white until they get dragged to court or get a lot of negative publicity. To date I haven’t seen any mention of oil dilution or snapping cranks in the press - either the newspapers or the specialised motoring press - so either the problems affect a very very small number of cars or people are just accepting what the dealers tell them and they fork out for a new engine if their car is out of warranty.
I would love JLR to have enough confidence in their products to offer a 5 or even a 7 year warranty in UK and Europe but until the senior management in Warwickshire see a threat to their jobs we won’t see any change. I have seen both the good and bad ends of the spectrum with LR management - both times with RR Evoques.
The lack of any re-assurance from LR in the SDv6 crank issue was the final straw for me - if they had had the confidence to offer some sort of support to owners who had suffered the results of a design fault in the form of an extended warranty (rather than a verbal comment that all snapped crank damages are resolved on a case by case basis) was why I did not chose to buy a new JLR product this year and sold a perfectly good 100% reliable low miles SDv6 RRS. My biggest objection was that my car had the service contract, I had to take it to an approved JLR service outlet so in theory it was being serviced at the right interval and by LR qualified technicians yet management hadn’t the nouse to give me a written reassurance that in the remote off chance that my car would suffer the results of a design fault it would be fixed at no or minimal cost to me. Just think how much additional profit they could make if they offered customers with cars about to go out of warranty an extra cost extended warranty that did cover the technical issues - at the very least it would show that management has some confidence in the product. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

But the servicing plan means handing your vehicle to a LR dealership "technician". I'd rather pay someone else to service mine - and I do. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I would support 50% of that, my FL2 was the most reliable car I have ever owned and the Evoque was the worst. Most of my Evoque photos are of it sitting on the back of various flat bed recovery trucks. 2018 MY19 HSE Dynamic, Santorini, Ebony/Ivory, Sliding pano, Adaptive cruise, Black wheels. it's interesting, yes

in my opinion that 5 years warranty comes from the importer of the vehicle

here in CH we have:
- three years warranty
- four years free service and free repairs (since 1.1.16, until 31.12.15 there were three years)

my RRS hat three years warranty and three years free service. It expired last weekend Smile
I have extended the warranty for one year. the costs are 1690.- CHF. in this price I have the next service for free, also

few years ago BMWs imported by private persons from Germany had 2 years manufactors warranty. the cars imported by BMW CH had 3 years and the free-service add-on
