5.0 V8 Supercharged Real World Distance Between Fill-Ups

Hi All,

Having had my RRS SDV6 AB Dynamic now since June, I absolutely love it but have recently sold a Boxster S that I owned as well and I'm missing the speed/fun of that car.

I am thinking about trading in the SDV6 in favour of the 5.0 V8 as there is only a few £ks difference in cost between comparable age/spec models.

I know the MPG is hopeless (I've had plenty of V8 sports cars) but my question is, with the larger 105 litre fuel tank, what range can you realistically expect between fill-ups as my only reason for not swapping would be having to stop every say 250 miles which I would find annoying...

Thanks a lot!

Thanks a lot Andy - very useful.

Presumably the actual website is in US measurements as it says your average is 13.5mpg whereas your icon in your post says 16.8mpg average?

Either way, congrats - you’re obviously driving it “properly”!

I’ve always congratulated Andy for his epic fuel usage...
I do high miles yesterday did a trip from Lincoln to Kent and back and averaged an almost unbelievable 28mpg...the day before I did Kent to Torquay and was pushing on and averaged 24mpg...

Heavy traffic M25 journeys I average 22-24 mpg...

Performance is awesome.. do it you won’t regret it! Very Happy

Mines mainly short runs that’s the reason I’m only getting 16ish mpg.Not that I’m bothered though, every time I drive it it puts a smile on my face. When I’m not in the car I think about selling it till I get in & fire it up then I want to keep it.I was stuck behind 5 cars & a truck on sat (not far from where Muddywheels lives)& not many straights for overtaking them all then I came to a bit of straight road & floored it & passed the lot,,the wife said do we have to do 140 Laughing Laughing

Don’t think that the SC will replace the SDV6 and also give you the speed and fun of the Boxster. From expensive experience, it won’t provide the thrills of a sports car. Keep the SDV6 and buy something else quick and fun. Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

Thanks for the useful replies - very interesting range of MPGs...

I’m not fussed about the fuel costs as I only do about 8k miles a year. My issue is the need to stop to refuel too often - I remember in my M3 V8 it was every 250 miles which just became boring!

My best guess is that the V8 RRS is roughly every 275/300 miles vs 450/475 for the SDV6. (My General Grabber AT2 tyres don’t help!)

Punka....

From experience, 300 miles should be about right with mixed driving, maybe a little more. I could get 27-29 mpg on a long freeway trip as the car is basically very low revving at 70mph.

Good luck if you get one but make it a very considered decision if you want the thrills of a sports car, I didn’t find it in the RRS. Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

Thanks a lot BKH2 - that makes sense.

Not expecting the thrills of a sports car - just some proper pace and the V8 sound that I miss so much...

Will let you guys know if I go for it!

Cheers

In contrare.... if you want to do big miles in comfort and push on then it is perfect....I do 25-30k per annum in the UK with lots of trips to Scotland and the West Country plus a commute circumnavigating the M25 most weeks!
It’s perfect for that....only car I can get out off after a full days driving and want to get back in again to repeat the journey!

When i’m Stuck on the M25 going nowhere then I turn on the stereo and immerse myself...perfect car!

If you're missing the V8 growl and a bit of pace over the SDV6, I'd consider spending that bit extra and getting an SVR.

I know they're still quite a premium over the regular Supercharged but if you consider the depreciation then I'd wager you'll do better with running an SVR for a few years over a standard Supercharged. I've had both and in terms of overall enjoyment factor (rather than purely increased performance) it's well worth the premium.

275-300 miles I used to get between fill-ups in both the Supercharged and SVR.

I get the same in my current Supercharged Full Fat and am expecting for something similar in my hopefully soon to be arriving F-Pace SVR! SOLD - 15 plate Estoril SVR

SOLD - 64 plate Aleutian Silver Supercharged

SOLD - 63 plate Corris SDV6 Autobiography

South Africa 2013 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Siberian Silver

Just got back from a road trip: drove all the way from Cape Town to Makalali Game Reserve (Limpopo) and back.

Distance travelled: 3671km
Fuel used: 461.303L
Avg consumption: 12.57L/100km

Most of the time the cruise control was on 132kmh (128 kmh on GPS), amazing consumption for those speeds!

But the bugbear of the range calculation vs amount left in the tank is very frustrating for me: when driving back home, the range showed 92km but home was 112 or so. Not willing to risk running out of petrol along the highway (extremely dangerous in South Africa), I filled up, and guess what - only 84.1L went in Censored --
