I upgraded my 2005 SC head unit to a Pioneer AppleCarPlay double din unit and it works perfectly.
My advice to you is to give the guys at IncarTech (site sponsors) a call and they will talk you through it. They are brilliant and I highly recommend buying their upgrade wiring kit, it makes life so much easier. It's not the easiest job but if you order through them and follow their instructions, everything will work fine, including the steering wheel controls.
For info I used Pioneer AVH-Z5000DAB
And even better the new IOS 12 lets you use Google Maps or Waze through Apple CarPlay!

I would love to help you out but I'm by no means a qualified auto electrician and if something went wrong or didn't work, I wouldn't want to be responsible!
I had an engineer friend help me so felt more confident.
