2012 SDV6 buying advice

Hi
I have a Vogue 3.6TDV8 and have been looking at Sports for my wife.

Although I haven’t had any issues with my Diesel engine, I’m aware that there is potential wallet busting issues, so with that in mind I decided on the supercharged. Mainly for engine longevity and peace of mind.

However, an SDV6 has cropped up in my price range but I don’t know anything about these engines.

I have vague memories of crankshaft failures and other woes during researching, but not sure if that applies to this engine.

Anyhoo, I understand this was a facelift model (I think) but are they better than the original sports?

Any pointers/known faults I should be wary of??

I know my stuff when it comes to full fats, but a little inexperienced with the Sport.

Any help appreciated [/img] Less is more, more or less

Are you looking at an L320 RRS post 2010 aka the “facelifted RRS” or the post 2013 L494 Model? Both have versions of the 3.0ltr SDv6 engine but with differing outputs? 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

2012 would make it one of the run out Facelift L320 cars then as L494 came in 2013 IIRC. There are still reports of even 2017 SDv6 cars suffering the snapped crank issue but few and far between. I would suggest that if what you are looking at has come this Far you shouldn’t suffer the problem.......l but get a good warranty and if it doesn’t have a full LR min dealer service history then don’t touch it because it seems that LR don’t want to know when it comes to cars that don’t have a full main dealer service history, and even then they are not keen to replace engines for free even though the problem is of their making. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

England 2012 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Autobiography Fuji White

I was perusing a breakers site a few days ago and they had a 3.0 engine block (I think it said SDV6) for sale and it stated it could be used as a BMW 3.0 diesal block. Is that correct? Did LR use a BMW designed engine? I wondered if a BMW 3.0 engine would be a suitable for a failed LR item, or even just the crank shaft.

I always thought the 3.0 was a License built ford derivative. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

The only BMW 3.0 Diesel used by LR was 2003 to 2006 the BMW straight 6 TD6 in the l322 FFRR - it was a terrible rattly taxi engine that wheezed and sighed and put me off ever owning a BMW Diesel if that was the best that they produced. RRS never got that engine, they used the 2.7 PSA / Ford joint venture engine for D3 and RRS after BMW sold LR they stopped supplying the 3.0 too, thank goodness. As an aside BMW launched the X5 as a competitor to the L322 but using system “stolen” from LR under BMW ownership, they put a much nicer 3.0ltr TD engine into the X5! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
