Yellow Engine management light and IID tool

I've had my 2005 SC for 2 years without any major issues but yesterday the yellow engine management light came on and wouldn't go off. The engine also seemed to be "hunting" a bit.

Luckily I'd invested in a Gap IID tool and it told me there was a problem with the MAF (mass air flow) sensor.

I didn't even know what that was but a quick google and it seems that it measures the airflow from between the air filter and engine and then sends a signal to the ECU to adjust the fuel mixture accordingly.

I also learnt that they can get dirty and need a clean with MAF cleaner.

So off I went to Halfords this morning, bought a tin of MAF cleaner (or electrical contact cleaner without silicone) for £3.99, disconnected the plug, unscrewed the 2 small screws holding it on and sprayed it liberally several times.

Then I left it to dry for 15 minutes, put it back, cleared the fault code and drove for 20-30 miles and it seems to have fixed it.

I've no doubt a garage would have charged over £100 so it's nice to have a cheap fix for once and hope it might help someone else.

The whole job, including waiting 15 minutes for it to dry took 30 minutes! 2016 RRS SVR Estoril Blue

If we all point our RR's in the same direction and accelerate at the same time can we turn back time?
