Dipstick reading

Does anybody else have problems reading the dipstick? Even though mine is a TDv6 and the oil is black as hell I find it darned difficult to read the terrible flexi wire dipstick. It isn't my eyes and the car lives outside so it isn't lack of good light, but I just find it difficult to decide just how far up the stick the oil level actually comes!
Or am I the only person that has bothered to check their oil? Laughing 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Well seeing as it has only done 2500 miles since June I was surprised to find that the level appeared to be at less than half way between min and max marks on the dipstick (I'm used to LR dealers who over fill the lub and the level is off the top!) but I found it quite difficult to decide what the level was between the silly bead things on the wire, even after wiping the stick with a clean rag and trying to get it back down the tube without rubbing it on the sides............ I don't remember what the level was when I checked it last in July and in between July and October the car only covered 170 miles in my father's hands (and he is fanatical about checking tyres/pressures and oil every Monday morning!) 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Our TDV6 has done 7,500 miles now and I had to put in a litre of oil when it has done around 3,500 (in fact this was the first time I checked). The dip stick is a bad design. If the oil in new and clean, it doesn't really cling to the wire - it needs to be a wide blade type stick like other cars. Matt

It IS a normal blade design on the supercharged, I checked mine the other week, it was sitting at the fulll mark.

TDv6 has a length of wire with fused-on plastic beads between min and max, consider yourself lucky to have a blade type RR! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Some pics of TDv6 Dipstick - this one is fresh out of the engine!

The Max mark is a tiny arrow pointing up on the top elongated bead and minimum is a tiny arrow stamped on the bottom one. I say, bring back the good old fashioned flat rod type (it is probably cheaper to make too!) This could of course be a throwback to the engine makers........ Peugeot/Citroen in colaboration with Ford. Maybe PSA group car owners don't check their oil, the dipstick being a French fashion statement! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

What an odd contraption... I've never seen a dipstick like that before. And there's one lurking under the bonnet in my car! Nice ice cream tub, there Tim! Wink

Just got my car back from the dealers and having changed the oil, I thought I would check the level. It would appear that the bolt holding the top part of the dipstick tube has been undone and not done back up again. It sits in a rubber damping bush and appears to screw into the side of the acoustic shield. However mine doesn't appear to want to screw back in.

Anyone had similar problems - it feels like the bolt is too short to catch the captive nut/tapping.

He is a class A show-off/bull-sh*tter/laughable character.......just search some posts.........

We have had some classics, the one about his designer customized private jet being one of my favourites, or tea with the queen etc etc.

I'm sure someone will post up some links to "classic pauly" threads, I can't remember any of the titles.

He also repeatedly tells us we're all sad and poor and rants and raves how sh*t RRSs are and that he's never coming on the forum again......only to come on a couple of weeks later to recommend Revere or Strut to any newcomers. Rolling Eyes
