Buying Approved Used

Hi all!

Hopefully joining the fold soon - will be sure to post plenty of pics once I find "the one"!

Just after some advice - I've never purchased a JLR product before and will be looking to get an approved used MY16 RRS.

I've seen one at a Stratstone dealership, initial reading seems that this group are fairly reluctant to budge on the pricing, so I'm wondering if there's anything else I should be trying to get from them to "sweeten the deal"?

Any inputs from those that have done it before when it comes to buying approved used would be most welcome.

Thanks!

Are you buying cash or via PCP/PCH? If the latter what APR are they quoting?

If cash then they should have some flexibility especially something so expensive.

Sorry I forgot to mention that bit! It’ll be cash with nothing to part ex.
I’d heard that some dealers actually prefer finance as they make a margin on it...not sure if it’s true or not though!

Maybe they make commission if the finance is in house (Black Horse) but many people get better quotes from external specialists such as Oracle or Magnitude.

But if paying cash I've never bought anything pre-owned without getting either a discount or some extras thrown in.

Maybe you can take up their finance, get the discount/goodies then cancel it after a few days and pay the cash Smile

Dealers make money three ways....on the part exchange value of the car that is being traded in, on the value of the car they are selling and on any finance or additional deal they can get you to sign up on.. I.e. ceramic coatings, additional gap insurance etc... dealers can adjust any of the above, apr rates etc accordingly.
But running a dealership is also incredibly expensive hence why so many go bust these days...

Being a cash buyer is actually a loss leader for the dealer... as you deprive him of those additional sources of income..

The best way forward for you would be to go internet searching for a similar vehicle and show those lower priced ones to the salesman demonstrating that you can buy the same car at cheaper money elsewhere... he would obviously prefer you to buy from him rather than walking away and spending your money elsewhere!
If you do it in good humour and be reasonable i’m sure you’ll both end up happy! Very Happy

With cash you are often less likely to get a discount. They can make more money from the kickback payments on PCP/Loan set-ups. Was speaking to a non-JLR dealer informally the other day and on some cars they would sell at cost if there was a PCP/Loan arranged through themselves. 2016 RRS 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography Dynamic in Montalcino Red and Stealth Kit

You won’t get a discount from stratstone but they do regularly “review” prices. I’d been watching mine for a few days when they suddenly dropped it by £2k. Needless to say I put a deposit on it quickly!

You can bet if I’d asked the day before, they wouldn’t have reduced it a penny! Couldn’t even convince them to fill it up company policy limits fuel to £20! Range Rover Sport HSE DYnamic SDV6 Velocity blue 2020 MY

Just bought mine from Stratstone Aylesbury - got £17k for my X3 part ex..£1k more than other dealers...you may have some play on the list price if you speak to the right sales person.

Good luck with the search and purchase.

You can take PCP, negotiate a discount if it helps, then pay it off a few days later.

Enjoy the experience! Happy bartering and we want to see photos of the subsequent purchase!
One of the options to enjoy is the Dynamic pack... definately turns the car into a hooligan and it will go round corners like a car that size shouldn’t do!

Don’t worry about self park, Lane control, or all round cameras as you’ll never use them...

Decent stereo, heated steering wheel, and blind spot mirrors are all you need!

I'd add Adaptive Cruise Control to the "must have if at all possible" list. I had it on my TDV8 and I miss it on motorway slogs as my SDV6 doesn't have it. I'd like the cameras for off road / tight gateways but it's not a "need to have", certainly. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
