My lumpy idle and coolant drain woes are gone | |
Picked the car up this morning after having the head gaskets, one of the cats, timing chain, timing chain guides and supercharger nose all replaced. It originally went in for a head gasket and cat replacement, but while they had her opened up they did the TSB timing chain work too which I was very happy about. My engine falls in the VIN range of a TSB about timing chain guide weaknesses, which Col from this forum originally told me about. I forwarded this info to James French 4x4 specialist when they had my car in months ago and they said nope everything is fine. In fact I was told that if the guides did need doing they'd have to replace the whole supercharger while they did it well I knew something wasn't right and it turns out that TSB work really needed doing, and of course I didn't have to buy a whole new supercharger.
The bill was eye-watering, but the chap said the car should feel very different now. He was not wrong. It must have been running sup-optimally since I got it, because it feels like it's on steroids now. I honestly can't believe the difference. When it's idling you can't tell the engine is running. It sounds much much healthier now - no tick tick at idle, no rattle, just a smooth purr. Throttle response is immediate, I can actually hear some real supercharger whine now. Foot-down acceleration the difference is night and day, it's like I've picked up a different car to the one I dropped off. Even my wife noticed all the differences in how it's running.
Big big thumbs up to Four Counties 4x4 in Peasemore, Newbury, who did the work for me at short notice. The price was fair, they contacted me via facebook almost every day with photos while the work was going on. I'll be using them for everything now, really impressed. More than happy to chat about the work when I picked it up, no sales desk giving you half-information, you know you're talking to people who know and love LR vehicles.
These cars can be cruel mistresses - but when they're running right they're effing hard to beat! When I booked the car in I said to my wife that's it I've had enough, when it's fixed I'm selling it. Not anymore ![Cool Cool](images/smiles/icon_cool.gif)
