The plug in is maybe too sensible, but thanks for the suggestion. One of the key appeals of the RRS is the availability of six cylinders and decent power. Beyond the commute, the car will probably be regularly used for 100 mile motorway runs and the effortless feel of a large engine is hard to beat for that.

Diesels are great off road, they are very fuel efficient in slow rock crawling conditions or driving slow on unformed surfaces. The other advantage of diesel in Australia is that you can get it everywhere in the outback. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

Damn, it’s happened again. Two years ago I went on a BMW forum intending to find the pros and cons of leasing a 430d. Ended up buying a 440i with lots of options.

After a week on here, I now know I need proper dynamic spec and that I want an Autobiography. Very Happy still resisting the lure of a V8, mainly because I can’t afford one.

I have the V6 SC - overall very happy with it - at Tim said even though is says Dynamic on the blurb AND the logbook it does not have the Dyamic pack or red callipers - I have done just over 13k miles in almost 12 months - I am very happy with it, I do "drive" it, but cant really say I am missing have the "Dynamic" element - 28-29mpg too... Thanks, great to hear from a SC owner. That mpg is pretty impressive I must say. The 3.0 petrol turbo in my 4-series ranges from 25 to 35mpg depending on usage in a much lighter car. Although can crack 45mpg on a long run.

I was expecting low 20s might be the norm in the RRS SC.

How does she sound? I’m guessing quiet and refined most of the time?

Interesting read. I am looking to move to RRS from my Evoque 2.2d (6 speed). I love the Evoque, but find the delay at junctions frustrating - the wait wait GO makes for some jerky manoeuvres.

I am concerned about the politics surrounding diesel and could not live with the V8 petrol fuel consumption, so my options seem to be V6 petrol or V6 (or used V8 ) diesel.

I also read about crankshafts on the V6 diesels, is this just a few bad luck incidents or is there more to this?

Finally coming back to the "wait wait GO" mentioned above, does the RRS suffer with this?

I’ve not driven the RRS yet, so someone with a real answer will hopefully be along soon, but...

The RRS uses the same 8ZF box as my 440. At least in it’s BMW implementation, it’s an incredibly good gearbox. In Sport or Sport+ it leaps off the line and even in comfort mode the softer response is easily adapted too. Hopefully LR have got the mapping right with their motors too, but certainly the hardware is outstanding.
