United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Rimini Red
Tailgate light on dash, on constantly... Help please!

Hi. I have a RRS HSE 2008 and I've been having problems with the tailgate...
The 'Tailgate Open' light is continuously 'on' on the dash and I can't hear the motor working or actually see the 'soft close' mechanism pulling the tailgate closed that last cm or so...?
I took it to a 4 x 4 Inde and he initially thought it was the botttom tailgat lock (on the actual tailgate) that was at fault, so I bought a new genuine lock from LR and he fitted it... still the same. Then he sugested the lower tailgate mechanism/actuater on the boot floor... so I purchased a proven, used one and had that fiitted, but again, it doesnt function.. I still can't see the soft close pull in the tailgate or hear he motor on the soft close mechanism working....and the tailgate light is still on!?
It's now doing my head in... and in desperation I have now loosened the lower floor lock tailgate mechanism and dropped it down/back a little and re-tightened it up, so at least now the tailgate closes fully now (doesn't rattle when driving...), but I still have the light on (as the problem isn't sloved) and when I park it and alarm it, the alarm sounds, as its assuming that one of the doors/tailgate is unlocked/open...
The top part of the tailgate works fine and closes fully...
Any ideas for an easy fix would be greatly appreciated, before I take it to the stealer with a jar of vaseline and have them take a look...!
Ive checked the fuses and tried a few off the little tricks Ive found by searching online, but nothing seems to work.
I've had the RR for almost 2 years now and this fault only developed around 3-4 mths ago, but its really annoying the hell out of me now...
Rgds
William
