There are instances of crank failure in Land Rover's TDV6 / SDV6 engines but in reality they are fairly rare when one considers how many units they have sold since 2004.

The old 2.7TDV6 goes because the crank bearing shells rotate which blocks the oil entry - result is seizing/snapping of the crank.

If you look on any forum for any car you will find some Achilles heel subject and for those that suffer it it is a significant issue. However, the instances of it occurring are always very rare.

Porsche - IMS bearing failing on Porsche 996, Boxster 986 or a very early Boxster 987, Cayman 987 or 3.6 or very early 3.8 997, for example.
http://www.revolution-porsche.co.uk/news/i...-spot-them BMW timing chain failures affecting 1-, 3- and 5-series vehicles resulting in engine replacements. BMW dealt with it "on a case by case basis" and if you didn't have a BMW service history then tough luck pal. It's not something unique to LR, that's for sure. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

Presumably. LR are doing the same by designing and building their own engines after many years of buying in Ford lumps. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
