If you have one of these fitted then you have, but highly unlikely on a 05/06 car as they were only fitted to some vehicles from Vin No. 8A000001 on.

No DPF on an 05/06. Certainly not for Europe. They came in with Euro 5 standard around 2011.

You can tell if you have a dpf by looking up the exhaust tailpipe. If there is no dpf, it will be black and sooty. If there is a working dpf, it will be spotlessly clean. They are fantastic at capturing particulate.

Was available as a option on 2008 on Euro 4 spec. cars before they became a legal requirement.

Can they be fitted retrospectively to say my TDV8 (2008) or the OPs 2006? Just thinking about the increasing pressure on owners of older cars to comply with ever stricter new emissions rules going forward. Sorry if this is a bit Off Topic Robin

Not sure if they can be retro fitted or not, but at around 2k a piece from L/R don't think many will be fitting them. Smile

Good point Col Thumbs Up And presumably they wont deal with Nitrous Oxides - you'd need to sort out the Adblue feature for that - another few grand to fix, if even possible. Just thinking out loud really.

Apologies Morgi27 for hijacking your post, and if its of any use, my 2008 TDV8 doesn't have DPF. Robin

Hi Eaters.
Not really practical to retrofit, because it is not just a case of bolting on a new exhaust system. The car will also need all the electronics to enable excess fuelling to cause the DPF to regenerate.

Also, it will not change the Euro standard of your car, even if it is fitted and working. Most emissions schemes such as the London T-charge and next years ULEZ, judge the Euro standard first and foremost. You would need to get the emissions measured in a new type-approval emissions test to prove that it complied.

Thirdly, DPFs control particulate only. Laudable as that is, it has nothing to do with controlling oxides of nitrogen, which requires a combination of EGR and selective catalytic reduction (SCR). That is the on that uses Adblue and retrofitting that is even more involved than a DPF would be.

If you are worried about it, or are likely to be in any of the Clean Air Zone cities in the next few years, buy a Euro 6 diesel, or a petrol engine ! Thumbs Up

It is very easy to tell, if you have diesel smoke out the exhaust you do not have DPF! M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

Now, can someone work out how many windmills and batteries it will take to replace the power station above? Laughing

No. But here's a related factoid to think about.

To substitute electrical energy for all the petrol and diesel currently being burnt by cars and light vans in the UK, the total output of the power stations will need to be doubled.

Oops.
