This problem seems to be well known - some 0.5 to 5 minutes after start up the dreaded 'ping' and yellow suspension warning light comes on. A system reboot (i.e. a restart) used to clear it - but it is becoming more difficult to clear these days. Sometimes 5 or 6 reboots are required.

Here are my thoughts:

It has had a new compressor about 24 months ago - the indie maintenance shop looking at the problem does not suspect this to be the fault.

The maintenance shop was unable to download the latest BECM software - I am not sure of the reason (and they do not know either).

The red air bag warning light comes on due to a faulty connection at the BECM (fiddling with the multi-pin connector on the front panel of the BECM seems to fix it for while - but after a week or so the fault recurs).

Here is my question:

Could a dodgy connection to the BECM trigger the suspension error? Many electrical systems seem to route through this unit so if the airbag circuit is playing up it seems reasonable that other circuits are. This could also explain the software download problem.

Or perhaps the BECM itself is faulty?

Does anyone have any further thoughts or advice?

If you browse around on this site you'll find that warning messages that pop up and mysteriously disappear after a restart are very often related to a poor state of charge of the vehicle's main battery or a failing battery.

First thing to do is check the battery voltage across the terminals with a digital multimeter - (after car has been standing overnight, this is important) anything less than about 12.4 volts indicates poor state of charge.

Next try FULLY charging the battery using a decent quality smart charger such as a CTEK or Optimate. Simply driving the car isn't enough. Check the voltage again after allowing the surface charge to dissipate for a couple of hours.

If still having problems have the car fully scanned with a Land Rover specific scan tool, get a print out or write down the results and post them here. It sounds as if your independent doesn't understand how to use theirs properly or they have only a generic system. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE
