Just a quick share about Budget tyres and my experience.

When I brought my car (4.2 SC) I had Grabbers on the rear and Pirellis on the front. The Pirrellis according to the tyre shop had about 4/5 thousand miles left on them. The Grabbers on the rear look like they needed replacing. So when we had snow for the first time a few weeks ago I took the car out in the snow on private land and blasted it about seeing what it stopped and skidded like. The car would only skid when braking or turning on hard icy or hard packed snow
At the tyre shop I had a choice a of new Pirrellis just on the back or change to all new tyres (4 tyres fitted for £300). I went for budget fitted.

Didn't know what make I was getting turned out to be Deestone. Been out in the Snow last couple of days and back to the private land. My own personal experience is the car handles way better and skids a lot lees on the 4 new budget tyres.

This isn't a scientific review but when you google budget tyres you are told that you are risking your life and that they are all bad. This certainly has not been my experience of them, the ratings on the Deestone tyres where the same or better than more expensive tyres.

Hope this helps anyone who is considering budget tyres.

In general I think the cheap tyres can suffer delamination at high speed because of the running temperatures. Your (I think) examples are more about tread depth and design.

Having said that, all new tyres sold in the UK/EU have to meet the same standards

tyre delamination should be OK at the moment its -5!!

New tyres ought to do well in snow compared to nearly worn out tyres, irrespective of brand.

Maybe it's just me, but sticking cheap tyres on a 380bhp, 140mph, 2.5 tonne vehicle is folly. Tests between branded and cheap far eastern tyres uniformly show the cheaper stuff struggles. They often do well in the EU ratings but struggle in tests that replicate real world situations.

I would never put budgets on mine,,personally I wouldn’t fit budgets on any vehicle I own.mid range yes,I have General GT’s on my SC & they perform really well in wet & dry & I don’t hang about when driving.

Just offering my own observations in the snow. Like I said what you read online makes them out to be awful and that has not been my experience. Wanted to share with others. Thanks for all the replies.

When my continentals cross contact uhp’s were dead, I replaced all 4 with Nexen Roadians HP‘s. And apart from slightly noisier on different road surfaces, I’ve noticed no difference in wet or dry grip. I’ve been out in the snow and driving well within the road conditions and they’re performing well for me. No negatives to say yet. They’ve been on now almost a year so probably about 12-15k miles so far.
