hi ,i have notice when i start the my rr sport v8 diesel and run it for a while i turn it off and i hear a pump running and smoke coming from the n/s front ,it smells of diesel ,it seems only when its cold it doesn't last very long a few minutes.any ideas my wife said it don't look right.thanks ray.

Auxiliary heater or FBH.

As said, it's perfectly normal. The diesel-engined RRSs have a fuel burning heater (the FBH) that runs on diesel. It's sat in front of the battery box on the NS of the engine bay. It fires up in low temperatures and is used to speed up engine warming and also to keep the engine at temperature in very cold weather. You might notice slightly reduced fuel economy in very cold weather because of this.

The FBH is entirely automatic in operation although you can buy kits to allow you to run it as a pre-heater before you want the vehicle. Very nice to walk out to a RRS with warm water already in the heater.  2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

thank you for the good advise ,my wife will be happy to drive it now.

And one more thing; the exhaust pipe for the FBH exits underneath the from nearside of the car, hence the smoke. As said, nothing to worry about. It’s a bonus in fact as your car will produce less harmful emissions in the first few miles as the engine is already psrtly warm.

I love the remote option, as it enables me to warm up the car whilst sitting cosy inside my house. This will speed up defrosting etc as well. Numerous opinions for fitting the remote if your interested. As said, a search on here will bring up loads of info. Robin
