DPF problems

Fed up of the recurrent DPF issues with my MY16. It has been recovered by LR assist 4 times this year as they were unable to do a regeneration each time. Dealer keeps insisting it's driving style. Got the car back from the dealer last week after they "sorted" it again and the damn thing blocked again after only 200 miles. Whilst I do a lot of city driving this can't be normal. How often do you guys who do mainly city driving get a blocked DPF?

I have asked the dealers to replace the DPF which they refuse to try. I literally get an amber warning light every week and sometimes have to thrash the car for 60 miles to clear it. MY16 (65) RRS, HSE, White, 21" 507s, Pan/Black Roof, 7 Seats, Ebony/Cirrus, Surround Cams, Fully Color Coded

I have a MY15.

27k miles. Live in a small city.
- Motorway twice a month max.

Never had a dpf warning.

It’s not uncommon though. Have been reading same on porsche threads. 2022 P440e AB

It's rare for me to have to a long journey (in the RRS) and I use the RRS for my daily commute which is less than three miles of city driving each way. This can happen for weeks on end and to date there has been no DPF issues whatsoever.

The above might not help but if nothing else it shows that it isn't a problem with all RRS.

Good luck with the dealer 2017 SDV6 Autobiography; Carpathian Grey, Ivory, Soft Close, Extended Grand Black.

When you bought the car, did you discuss the journeys/driving style that you would be doing with the salesman? If you did, I would suggest it was miss-sold to you.
The "driving style" excuse is a bit of a cop out IMO, the engine was almost certainly never designed for a dpf (too far away from the engine to get hot enough for a passive re-gen, unlike the Euro6 Honda 1.6 diesel for example). The alternative for JLR would be to be honest and admit that they haven't invested enough or early enough to produce an engine fit for purpose and meet emission regs.
I was in the position to choose one without a dpf but I was buying an older car.

Driving style was never discussed and raising this with the dealers is pointless. I would love to hear from someone who has escalated this issue and achieved a positive outcome. MY16 (65) RRS, HSE, White, 21" 507s, Pan/Black Roof, 7 Seats, Ebony/Cirrus, Surround Cams, Fully Color Coded

Bluestone, these things (DPF anex catalyst converter) work only well if the engine has no issues, like oil burning or coolant loss. Maybe they should check that.

Recovered back to dealer. Again.

On a positive note at least it's saving me a trip to the car wash. MY16 (65) RRS, HSE, White, 21" 507s, Pan/Black Roof, 7 Seats, Ebony/Cirrus, Surround Cams, Fully Color Coded

When I had my 15 plate RRS I had the same issue ref the dpf. There was a fix/update at the time to amend the sensitivity of the dpf, which cured my car. Might be worth mentioning this to the dealer.
I think there’s a thread on this a while back.

The software update has already been applied and didn't make a difference. LR assist came out yesterday and tried to force a regeneration but identified that the filter only partially regenerates before the process stops.

The car is going back for further investigation but no doubt the dealer will just fully regenerate it once again and tell me it's my "driving style" until of course the problem recurs again the following week. MY16 (65) RRS, HSE, White, 21" 507s, Pan/Black Roof, 7 Seats, Ebony/Cirrus, Surround Cams, Fully Color Coded

Sounds like your driving requirements make you an ideal customer for any of the Petrol engined RRS’s, but in particular the PHEV version. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Dunno about the hybrid. LR claim a range of 32 miles on electric so probably means a true range of 15-20 miles. Pointless MY16 (65) RRS, HSE, White, 21" 507s, Pan/Black Roof, 7 Seats, Ebony/Cirrus, Surround Cams, Fully Color Coded

City driving is not good for DPFs
Known issue to mist cars fitted with these units.

You are better off with petrol/hybrid if you daily use is city driving.

You need to thrash it up the motorway to clean them.
If you don’t do that after tge amber light comes on, it will fail.

Warranty did take a live that one full failure they would pay for, after test, it’s your cost, because it is the driving that is done causes them to fail Just bought a RRS 06 MY HSE TDV6 136,000 miles, to be a second car to my bland, boring Mitsubishi Outlander 68 plate 2.0 petrol 4
