I am thinking of attending an off road event this weekend with my RRS S/C, I have never done anything like this before. Can anyone offer any advise please? Is it a good idea??

Before you do anything I would do a basic LR experience course first. I also notice that you have a S/C and so I guess you are on 20 inch tyres - I would not do any off roading in these, you will damage your wheels. Sorry to put you off but at a lot of these sites you have guys simply tearing aroung trying to put their cars through extremes, your RRS will do a lot but do you want to risk damage from doing things that you don't know your car will do. Also check your insurance, most insurance polices will not cover you - if you have LR insurance you will be covered. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

You'l be ok at the Canyon as its a chalk pit, don't go to Slindon though. They do driver training, the guy who owns it has a very nice FFRR, but I'm not so sure how good the instruction is in modern LRs with TR. If I were you I'd get your Level1 done with LRE, costs about £300 then join some of the events on here. |

VA Slindon I think would be a no no as I believe it is quite overgrown. The Canyon place maybe, but I don't know how big it is. Kaine I think once you've been with LRE you will be very surprised how much you can do with standard tyres, particularly if you read the terrain well. On the first Salisbury trip mine were better than SST trod cars and on subsequent trips I've not had any trouble keeping up. Where MTRs score is their puncture resistance and when the gowing gets really really tough. When I shoot I regularly follow MTR equipped cars and have never had any problems, even if they have. It does take some time to get used to driving a TR equipped car offroad though. |
