The "special programmes unavailable warning - also HDC unavailable can show, is often a sign of an old / dying battery or alternator. Many warnings can be flagged up on the dash as a result of a failed brake lamp, dying battery or failing alternator.

If ever you need it read again and you're not too far from j9 m6, I have a hawkeye and can do it for you instead of going to Halfords. I also have a 2005 2.7, and there is a hesitation / lag its normal, Removing the EGR doesn't need a software patch on this year either.

Thanks Bodsey. Just to clarify; failing gearbox as opposed to failing torque converter or both? 4W in Solihull suggests the RRS gearbox is pretty robust and its likely just the TC needs changing. Do the other "P" codes point to turbo failure do you think? Thanks for the insight. |

Thanks Squizzel. I appreciate that. I'm not far from you. I'm just not sure now whether the Turbo is about to fail. My guy gave me the option of buying the car back or giving me some money back (£900). It may be better the devil you know... get some money back do the G/B but only if the "P" code fixes don't require a Turbo... If he refunded me (by law he has to) I would buy another RRS... but could face similar issues outside the statutory 6 month warranty period. What to do eh... decisions. |

Difficult decision, Is it worth getting it checked over by a specialist. Ultimate land rover are not too far from us they did the belts on the one I have. Not too bad with their prices. Low battery can cause a load of faults too, these cars are very sensitive to low voltage.

Just a thought, did the codes get cleared? and these came back. If not could they be historic, from when the work was done previously. |

This is the curious thing. When the dealer agreed to meet with me at his mechanics it was because i reported the cattle grid effect (torque converter) and the loss of power. His mechanic hooked up his diagnostic machine and drove the car. When the cattle grid effect occurred he said "What's that?" He couldn't give me a diagnosis for anything. In fact he just gave me 2 bottles of fuel cleaner.

The fault codes will all have a time stamp on them so you will know when they happened.

He will have checked for previous faults to give him an idea what he was looking for. But I would've thought he was more interested in live values. |

His mechanic? You not present? Yeah, sounds like a stitch up to me. How long have you had the car? I'd be thinking of handing it back for a refund if it's a recent purchase. This dealer is going to deny any issues you raise and you'll be left with an expensive heap. Move on. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |
