what I need to know to get towing

Hi all, I'm new to the RRS clan and I'd like to know what I need to do to get our car ready for towing. I see that the tow bar is a healthy seller on the auction site and then the magic of electrics Shocked . Can somebody explain what I need to do/get to tow or shall I just book it in to my local indie?.

Silly question but I just don't know Bow down

Steve.

Pop off the rear tow cover (middle of the back bumper) and see if you have tow electrics. If so, all you have to do is buy the tow hook, assuming you have lifted the boot floor and there isnt a tow hook under there?

Remember that if you passed your test after a certain date, you need to do a trailer test to tow anything useful. Check the back of your photocard to see if it lists B+E or just B. Even if you have the license but havent towed before, you might want to consider the tuition for a trailer test.

It is possible to cheaply diy fit electrics. See a sticky thread.

If you aren't just towing a light trailer then nite there was a recall to fit a reinforced tow hook.

If you saw fuses under the boot cover you should have electrics

Took the bumper cover off last night, one of the clips sheared (doesn't look like its ever been disturbed) and there are no electrics = 2 gaping holes.

Do I have to go to L/R to get replacement clips?.

What sort of towing are you planning to do? If you plan to tow a caravan or similar on a regular basis, consider a more robust tow bar. LR do a fixed version or you can get well made kit from Tow Trust.

The removable tow ball has a history of getting loose and has resulted in a small number of failures. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Again thanks everybody for the advice and help. It will be an occasional user for a trailer, it just seems that now we have purchased a most capable vehicle and the history of the brand that it is not fitted to tow from the get go. Anyway wheels are in motion so to speak Whistle

Steve.

Oh and replacement clips ordered so thanks for the ebay link.
